  • Fireside (November 19, 2006): Dr. Neil Whitehead, at the Salt Lake Stake Center (142 west 200 north), 7:00pm. Dr. Whitehead of Lower Hutt, New Zealand, is a world renowned expert on genetic and biological science and research related to same-sex attraction. He is the author of My Genes Made Me Do It. He was in the United States to present professional papers at the annual NARTH Conference and to do training for LDS Family Services in Salt Lake City. He maintains an extensive Web site on same-sex attraction research at http://www.mygenes.co.nz.

  • October 3-4: BYU Division of Continuing Education and School of Family Life hosted the fifth annual "Families Under Fire" conference at the BYU Conference Center. Dr. Shirley Cox gave a presentation about same-sex attraction.
  • October 15-16, 2005: Two training sessions were provided by Evergreen for nearly 300 therapists in the Washington, D.C. area as part of the Association of Mormon Counselors and Psychotherapists (AMCAP) meeting. On October 16th, a local stake hosted a fireside which was attended by 125 individuals, parents, and church leaders from 19 stakes. Information about the fireside was published in Meridian Magazine (see http://www.ldsmag.com/churchupdate/051005fireside.html).
  • October 21-22: Mini-conference in Idaho Falls hosted by the Eagle Rock Stake. David Pruden (Executive Director of Evergreen International), Steven Dahl (LDS Family Services Idaho Falls Agency Director), and Stake President Doug Andrus presented leadership training on Friday evening. Workshops were taught Saturday morning by David Pruden and therapists from BYU-Idaho and LDS Family Services. Subjects addressed in the workshops included pornography, abuse, dependent relationships, helping adolescents, supporting strugglers, and using the Atonement to change and heal.
